Where are you located?
We are
located in the city of Livermore, California (approximately 39 miles east of San
Francisco).
-
May I schedule a visit to meet you and your dogs?
Normally,
we welcome visitors and would love to introduce our dogs to you and your family.
However, since we have been and will continue to be very busy for the remainder
of 2009, we will not be available for visits until 2010.
-
Do you breed any other animal besides the Cane Corso?
No, we
breed just the Cane Corso and only on occasion.
-
Do you breed dogs to earn a living?
No, we
breed dogs out of a passionate love for the breed and to improve our own
bloodlines. We earn a living from our own real estate company and
investments.
-
How long have you been breeding dogs?
Our
first litter was whelped on January 20, 2004.
-
How many litters do you breed per year?
Based on
the last 3 years, it has been one litter average per year, but it really
depends. We only breed when we are trying to further our own breeding program.
-
Are your dogs officially exempt of dysplasia?
ALL of
our breeding stock (Romeo, Arianna "Giulietta", Nicoletta and Cyrano) have
been officially certified OFA-Good.
-
Do you know of any statistics for dysplasia in the Cane
Corso breed?
Here
are some statistics gathered from the OFA website as of January 2006:
-
The
Cane Corso is the #10 worst breed with hip dysplasia (among breeds with at
least 100 evaluations between January 1974-December 2005)
-
There
were 375 Cane Corso evaluations:
-
6.4%
excellent
-
39.2%

-
For
Cane Corsos born between 1990-1992, there were 6 dogs evaluated:
-
0%

-
33.3%

-
For
Cane Corsos born between 2000-2002, there were 166 dogs evaluated:

-
38%

-
What made you decide to breed your dogs?
The
winning combination of health, temperament and type and our lifetime
commitment to all puppies we breed were the significant factors in our
decision to breed. Our dogs are proven through OFA, CGC and/or ATTS
Temperament Test certifications, along with a track record of success in
the conformation ring.
-
Are you involved in any breed club or organization?
Yes,
we are not only members of the CCAA (Cane Corso Association of America),
but also proud members of the CCAA Breeders' Guild, the only Cane Corso
organization in the world that sets a standard for its members. We have earned 8
out 11 stars in the Breeders Guild (see next question for an explanation on
their star system).
-
What is the CCAA Breeders Guild?
The CCAA Breeders Guild is the ONLY breeder's organization in the
Cane Corso World that sets standards for its members. The CCAA Breeders Guild
requires its members to meet and verify a broad based criteria by submitting the
proper documents to CCAA officials. Then the Guild encourages its member
breeders to strive for a better program by rewarding colored stars for each
additional achievement or item of customer service.
The Basic Criteria is as follows:
1. Each member has x-rayed the hips of
every dog in their program.
2. Each member has a contract that guarantees for HD and has provisions
for a replacement.
3. Each Guild member has studied educational materials that contain Cane
Corso and CCAA Club history, the CCAA Standard, proper Cane Corso
conformation and information about genetics and building a good breeding
program.
4. Each member restricts paperwork for companion quality dogs and requires
spay/neuter.
5. Each member dual registers most of their dogs with both the CCAA and
the AKC-FSS. Some use an FCI registry as well.
6. Each member welcomes any dog they produce back if the owner can’t keep
the dog. Most rescue outside Cane Corsi as well.
7. Each member holds itself to the guidelines set forth in CCAA Code of
Ethics. |

Are you involved in Cane Corso breed rescue?
Leilani independently started CaneCorsoRescue.org in 2003, helping match
those in need with forever homes across the U.S. As it was quite a daunting
task for one person, she now gladly plays the role as webmaster and donates
the site hosting and maintenance to the CCAA Rescue Committee, which was
created in 2005.
-
May I contact your past puppy buyers for references?
Of
course! We'd be happy to provide their e-mail addresses and/or phone
numbers to potential puppy buyers.

Yes,
we offer quite an extensive and educational

Purchase

-
Is your puppy deposit refundable?
We
offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee and will refund any puppy deposit, no
questions asked, until the puppy reaches 8 weeks of age. After that, the
deposit becomes non-refundable.
-
Will I be able to choose a different name for my puppy?
Yes, we
have only "pre-selected" the names because we like to call them by name! You
will be able to select any name of your choice, as long as it has not already
been given to another California Cane Corso. The official name shall be
"California's ____________".
-
Do you ship your puppies worldwide?
Yes,
we would consider shipping our puppies anywhere except to a location that
requires quarantine for animals (for example, Hawaii, because we would
rather not subject one of our puppies to such isolation at a vital
developmental stage in their life). If you are located in the western
region of the United States of America, we highly recommend that you pick
up the puppy from our home in
Lincoln, California.
-
Will I receive support after receiving the puppy?
Most
definitely! Everyone is encouraged to call or e-mail us anytime for any
reason. We do our best to stay in contact with all of our puppy owners,
although we do understand that their lives can get so busy that sometimes
we lose contact. With our Litter A, we have kept in touch with all puppy
owners except one whose daddy was stationed in Iraq, the last we heard (all
e-mails bounced back, phone number was disconnected and our last letter was
returned with no forwarding address). We sent our Litter A puppies
California Cane Corso Puppy Calendars for their first birthday and homemade
Peanut Butter Doggie Cookies for their second birthday!
