We bought 3 bad dogs from Mr. Matson. He refused to do anything about any of them. We were forced to sue and have 3 court judgements against him. Mr. Matson lied to us consistently and never did anything he said he would do. STRONG WARNING AGAINST THIS VERY UNETHICAL BREEDER! Blue Boy - arrived very frightened. Hid behind chairs, was afraid of dogs, horses, people, stairs, traffic, etc. Could not even do Puppy Kindergarten because of his fear aggression. Put him into private training, but he continued to get worse. At 10 months, he attacked my son unprovoked while watching TV. Upon evaluation, Animal Control Staff said they had never seen a corso like him before, that he was unstable / not right in the head, and posed a serious danger to their staff. They observed him for the mandatory quarantine period, while we begged Mr. Matson for help or feedback as to what was going on with the dog. Without any assistance from this breeder, we put the dog to sleep. Was later informed that the mother of this dog was completely dysplastic.

Mr. Matson lied to us consistently and never did anything he said he would do. STRONG WARNING AGAINST THIS VERY UNETHICAL BREEDER! Gabriella - Arrived extremely frightened of everyone. (Gabriella and Abigail came together in the same crate.) Ran away constantly or threatened to fear bite. Terrified of brooms, rakes, hoses. Put her in private training and worked to build confidence, but could never overcome her fear. PennHIP scores were .74/.73, 30th percentile (lousy). Although we showed Gabriella and achieved an IABCA Championship title on her, she remained temperamentally unstable and an untrustworthy dog, who would freak out and attack other animals without warning. We asked Mr. Matson to help with this dog from the day she arrived, but he did nothing. The dog fear bit several people as we worked to rehabilitate her. Eventually we had no choice but to put this girl down.

Mr. Matson lied to us consistently and never did anything he said he would do. STRONG WARNING AGAINST THIS VERY UNETHICAL BREEDER! Abigail - Abigail and Gabriella came to us together. As with all 3 of the dogs from Alcor, Abigail was terrified of everything. She screamed when people approached, hid behind things and submissive peed. However, she was quite young and has a sweet nature. We put her into private training and through a great deal of work, eventually were able to help her gain some confidence. Abigail has a great love for children and is now used with special needs kids. Unfortunately, she has Demodectic Mange which indicates a suppressed immune system. She sometimes has terrible outbreaks that make her very ill. We have spent several thousands of dollars to heal her outbreaks and maintain her health. She is also dysplastic. Abby is a very large girl, weighing in at 120+ pounds and very wet. Although she was sold to us as a show/breed quality pup, conformationally she is a poor example of a Cane Corso. Mr. Matson was notified of the dogs fear immediately upon arriving but he did nothing. He eventually said that no breeder guarantees temperament. He was also notified of the mange when it was diagnosed but said it was probably puppy mange that would go away on it's own. When it didn't go away, even with treatment, he required that we get a statement from a veterinary dermatologist before he would replace her. We did that, but he did not replace or refund anything on her. Mr. Matson has refused to accept responsibility for any of the dogs he sold to us. We have paid this breeder over $7,000.

I bought Gold from Derek at a year old. She is now 3, and has fit into our home wonderfully. She gets along well with my other female and from day one bonded very well with our 2 year old son, he has fallen asleep many nights using her as a pillow. Gold had never had any kind of formal training prior to coming to our home, and now trains weekly in Schutzhund and personal protection training. She is a very confident female, and I am proud to be her owner. I plan on purchasing a male from Derek later this year to add to our family. I would recommend this breeder to anyone looking for a family companion, guard dog, and pet.

I would like for you to remove my posting for Derek Matson of Alcor Cane Corso ASAP. He has subsequently ripped me off- literally not paying me for 9 dogs that he was supposed to sell and give me half of the money for. I would also like to post new feedback using another dog I bought from Derek's kennel as the reference as I do not want to see anyone else get ripped off to the tune of $7000. Please contact me and let me know if there are any specific facts I am not allowed to post. This would help me out greatly. Otherwise I'll just post my most recent experience with Derek using this other dog. I just want to make sure it gets posted but am unclear on your guidelines. Please remove my other input. Thanks you, Tracee Hein

"Moses" is the absolute most brilliant dog I have owned in over 30 years of owning large dominant breeds. Derek and Alcor were great to work with and provided all necessary information to make an informed purchase. I must say that Derek's breeding has produced the best tempered, most courageous and polite dog I have ever ecnountered and I would not hesitate for an instant to get another dog from Derek. Moses has been in perfect health his entire life and I must say that even though I am predjudiced, he is the most stunning example of the breed I have seen to date. His confirmation is superb, his hips are excellent and he is the most beautiful dog I have met. He has impressed all that meet him. His perfectly proportioned 120lbs. is indeed stunnig.

Feedback

I purchased an excellent show quality Black Brindled male from Mr. Derek Matson in the winter of 2003; while this dog was my first from Derek, he was not my first Corso. I was really pleased to receive a dog with such an amiable disposition and so well put together. I have owned three large breed dogs prior to purchasing Priest from Derek, and I can say that Priest was by far the easiest to of all my dogs to train... he was just so willing to do whatever was asked of him. My Vet, who has been in practice well over 30 years, always made a point to say how much he liked Priest's temperament and how easy it was for him and his staff do their jobs. My trainer would laugh at how easy going Priest was compared to my other Corso, who while a great and intelligent dog requires a constant and sharp eye on her. My female seems to not have an off switch, while with Priest I simply have to hit his on switch and he's ready to go; the rest of the time he is mellow and just lays low. As far as how Mr. Matson dealt with me, we did business based on our word. Not something that can be done safely in this day and age. It certainly not something I was accustomed to, as I am not the most trusting person you know. I drove almost 18 hours one way to pick up my first pup, so it was a difficult thing for me to trust someone who I didn't know and who lived across the United States to pick the best dog based on what I was looking for. He talked to me about me trying to pick a puppy. He asked me to think about how wise it was for me to try and pick a pup based on a few pictures, as apposed to being there observing and critiquing the pups everyday; and to take into consideration my knowledge of the breed as compared to his... I'm glad he did. It would have been easier for him to not have that conversation. I believe he did so because he truly wanted me to be happy with the puppy I received and probably because he knew I'd be a pain in the neck if I wasn't. Derek has done everything he said he would, and more, way more! Derek patiently dealt with all my questions, mistrust and concerns in a professionally and friendly manner. He has spent countless hours (literally) teaching and educating me about Corsos, both before I made a purchase from him and after. He has answered every single one of my questions... many of which I now know were silly and often times pesky. He has shared so much of what he has learned in his 25 plus years of breeding and raising dogs. He has further educated me about training and caring for my dogs; be they Corsos or a Lasaopso- Poodle mix. By doing so he has saved my family hundreds of dollars in vet... heck he has even given me good advice with my tropical fish and exotic birds. Inclosing I want to say that I researched this breed for two years prior to purchasing my first Corso and then researched another two years before deciding to purchase my second pup from Alcor. My decision to purchase a dog from Derek Matson was based on his longevity and involvement in the breed and the "type" of Corso he breeds; yet I now find it hard to believe that I could have purchased from a more good-hearted, trusting, knowledgeable and service oriented breeder! Derek has given so much to me that I no longer consider him my "breeder friend"; he has become my "good friend!"

(Editor's note: We have e-mailed Mr. De Francisco asking for his city/state of residence and registration number. Update: We have reinstated Mr. De Francisco's breeder rating and feedback as he has provided us with his address and phone number and we have confirmed his identity.)

Derek was excellent to deal with. Thank's to him I have a very well manered beautiful Corso. I recive complements about him everywhere I take him. He is very protective and loyal. As with any large dominate type fo dog, you do have to properly work him but the rewards come in spades especially with a dog bred as well as Enzo. I would recomend Derek and will purchace another dog from him in the future.
